A recap of the weekend from Matt Sully (Warhawks)

Over the weekend of the 4th of June, Immy and I (along with two Warhawk applicants) were fortunate enough to be able to play at OMG’s big game “Desolation” at Outpost near Chester. As Outpost is a paintball site as opposed to an MOD location, whilst we knew we would have a great weekend we didn’t expect what an epic weekend it would be and how far away from a normal paintball site Outpost really is.

Outpost is built upon an old cold war anti aircraft artillery installation built to protect Chester, Wrexham, Wirral and Liverpool from attack by nuclear bombers during the cold war. Jon and Laura (the two owners) have really gone above and beyond to create a truly unique paintball experience. Jon being an incredibly talented “up-cycler” and scavenger, the field is filled with a fantastic eclectic mix of buildings, vehicles and a variety of cover created from the unique and unusual. This creates a truely post-apocalyptic, shanty town, scrap yard type experience with plenty of cover enabling continual movement and for stalemates to be non-existent. It really couldn’t be more perfect for Magfed.

Paul Strutt and the Marshalls of OMG really put this unique location’s strengths to good use creating some very exciting and varied gameplay; be it intense killhouse CQB action, large scale dom-box capture and defend or my new personal favourite ‘Hardpoint’ which keeps the game play varied and constantly moving.

Being part of the Warhawks team, Immy and I (and our two ‘egg’ applicants) were playing for Redkite Security against Blackthorn and the newly formed Green Dragon Enterprises. Over the weekend it became clear that this was the home of the dragon; with all factions playing phernonemenly well but with the Greens playing with a passion and energy that was a pleasure to see and compete against.

The weather over the weekend was fantastic and everyone’s spirits and comradeship was high on and off the field. During game play we were mortal enemies but as soon as one of us was shot out, thumbs were up, smiles were wide and congratulatory shouts were made; and as soon as that final whistle blew, all factions became good friends in our shared love of the sport - talking about the adventures of the day over a beer and laughing about who got the drop on whom.

It really was a fantastic weekend and again I’d like to thank Jon and Laura of Outpost for making us feel so welcome and to Paul and his ever supportive team for running such a great event - we can’t wait to see you all again and we are already pining for the time we can head back to Chester.

I have to say it was one of the best if not the best Paintball that I have ever had, it was amazing finally getting to meet you and Immy and enjoy a beer with you guys!

I do love the above comments about GDE we are newly formed with a massive amount of OMG newbies but as Faction leader I could not be prouder of them.

This is what paintball is all about, amazing experiences had, bonds formed, and massive respect for players for their epic kills.

Our firefight was awesome, I'm just gutted I didn't see Immy the assassin! Tried to flank you only to be taken out by her! She's an absolute lady and a beast on…
